OUTSIDE WALLA WALLA
Pioneer Park
As Walla Walla’s first park, Pioneer Park continues to provide many opportunities for the community to play outside. With a large playground and many sports fields, as you would expect, this park offers so much more. Walk under canopy of several state record holding trees on paved paths winding through the park, but don’t forget to stop and smell the roses at the Memorial Rose Garden. The newly remodeled Pioneer Park Aviary is also a must see and hear, actually, as there are a few peacocks. Not to mention a large duck pond, wedding fountain, and a historic bandstand that serves as the park’s center piece all located just a mile from downtown.

WHEN TO GO
Pioneer Park is open all year from 5 am to 11 pm daily. Giant trees shade the summer’s heat and come fall display amazing colors. There is a small hill located on the northwest corner of the park that is perfect for young sledders after a few inches of snow. Many City of Walla Walla Parks & Recreation programs utilize the park’s amenities, so check often and join an activity that suits you.
HOW TO GET THERE
From downtown Walla Walla, go east on Poplar Street (becomes Alder after crossing Park Street) for one mile. Turn right on Sasayama Drive to enter the park. There are three parking areas. The first and largest is on your left as you enter the park, providing immediate access to the playground and pickleball courts.
The second parking area is located at the center of the park. The third parking area is located between the aviary and pond near the park’s southern entrance on Whitman Street.
